Schools in the Lake Geneva Region

First day at school The Lake Geneva Region has an excellent reputation for private and state schools with an international emphasis. Nevertheless, there are both advantages and disadvantages with what they have to offer. There are well over 100 private pre-school, primary and secondary schools plus local or regional public institutions on both sides of the Swiss and French frontier. They welcome children and pupils from the age of two years onwards with various curricula on offer: Swiss, British, American, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Arabic and others. Many provide specialised summer courses.

Desperate Measures for Halloween in the Lake Geneva Region

halloween_pumpkin.jpgHalloween is coming round again. And once again, many of us with kids (including a swathe of non-North Americans) desperate to go out to trick or teat realize that neither the French nor Swiss, nor most Europeans for that matter, understand the concept of Halloween.Of course, most of the big shops in Switzerland and France will be pushing Halloween, but primarily for commercial purposes. What about organized events that are safe and fun? We can’t face another year with children sobbing at the prospect of “all dressed up and nowhere to go.” Migros' Signal de Bougy (www.signaldebougy.ch ) above Rolle is organizing a free Halloween ‘animation’ on Sunday, October 26 at 11.30 in the morning, admission free. But this is a cop-out for those serious kids - and adults - who wish to be spooked and enjoy the experience of real trick or treating in the dark.

Please, if you know of any events, such as parties or organized trick or treating, anywhere in the Lake Geneva region, send them in.  Or if you want to organize with others in your area, let us know. We’re all in the same boat.
